Imatra Falls in Snow is a landscape painted in 1893 by Akseli Gallen-Kallela. It shows Imatrankoski, the rapids at Imatra, in winter, and the title tells us that snow is part of the scene. The work is in oil paint on canvas. It belongs to the Finnish National Gallery and is held at the Ateneum. Gallen-Kallela was a Finnish painter closely linked with the national romantic movement around the turn of the twentieth century, and this picture shows his interest in the Finnish landscape.
On your wall: Its wintry subject and the movement of water suit calm living rooms, studies and hallways, especially where a quiet, nature-themed focal point is wanted.
