Le gobelet, French for 'the tumbler' or 'the cup', is a still life painted by Juan Gris in 1927. Gris was born in Madrid and spent most of his working life in France, where he became closely linked with Cubism. His paintings are counted among the most distinctive of that movement. Still life was a subject he returned to often, and this work belongs to that body of paintings from the 1920s. A humble object like a cup gives a good starting point for looking at how shapes and forms can be arranged on a surface.
On your wall: A good fit for modern interiors such as a study, dining room or living space, where a still life with an abstract character can add quiet interest.
