Edvard Munch, 1904
A rocky shore under the moon, where pink and green stones meet the sea and a yellow reflection stretches across the water.

Munch painted this landscape in 1904 in oil on canvas. It shows a beach strewn with rocks, their colours ranging from pink to green, with the sea beyond and the moon above. Its yellow light falls across the water in a long column of reflection. The brushwork is expressive, giving the scene a lively, slightly abstract feel rather than a literal record of the shore. The painting is signed E. Munch and belongs to the Munch Museum collection.
On your wall: Its soft pinks, greens and glowing yellow against the night sea suit a living room, bedroom or calm hallway, especially in modern interiors that welcome a little colour.

Edvard Munch was a Norwegian painter. His best-known work, The Scream, dates from 1893 and has become one of the most recognised and admired images in Western art. If you are drawn to bold, expressive pictures that stay in the memory, his work is a rewarding place to begin.
