Arthur Dove painted Holbrook's Bridge in 1935. He is often considered the first American abstract painter, and an early American modernist. Much of his work turns landscape into abstraction, and he was known for using a wide range of media, sometimes in unexpected combinations. The title points to a bridge as the starting point, which invites you to look for how the scene has been simplified and reshaped rather than literally described.
On your wall: Its abstract, landscape-inspired character suits a living room, study or hallway where a modern piece can sit quietly and reward a longer look.

Arthur Dove was an American artist and an early American modernist, often considered the first American abstract painter. He worked in a wide range of media, sometimes combining them in unconventional ways, to create abstractions and abstract landscapes. He also made experimental collages in the 1920s, and Me and the Moon, from 1937, is a fine example of his landscapes.
