Juan Gris, 1920
A table of everyday things, a bottle, a glass, a bowl of grapes, broken into bold, interlocking shapes in Juan Gris's Cubist style.

Juan Gris gathers a bottle, a stemmed glass, a pipe and a playing-card shape on a table, with a bowl of grapes raised on a pedestal. The objects are built from flat, overlapping planes rather than a single viewpoint, which is typical of Cubism, the movement Gris is closely linked with. It is a still life, a genre that suits this kind of arrangement, since familiar things become a study in structure. The painting is in oil, and Gris signed it in the lower left corner.
On your wall: The ordered, geometric still life suits a dining room, kitchen, study or living space where a modern, considered piece of art is welcome.

Juan Gris was the name used by José Victoriano González-Pérez, a Spanish painter born in Madrid. He spent most of his working life in France. He was closely associated with Cubism, the inventive artistic movement, and his paintings are counted among its most distinctive.
