Spaziergaenger I is a brush-and-ink drawing on tan paper. It shows people walking through a park among trees, among them a man in a top hat, a woman in a hat and a child. Working in ink on a tinted ground, Macke keeps the scene simple and lets the figures read as a small group out for a stroll. August Macke was a German Expressionist and a member of Der Blaue Reiter, and this drawing offers a quiet, everyday moment of park life.
On your wall: The tan ground and dark ink suit a calm, neutral room such as a hallway, study, living room or bedroom, especially where a modern, understated look is wanted.

August Macke was a German Expressionist painter and one of the leading members of Der Blaue Reiter. Working in a lively period for German art, he took in the avant-garde movements emerging across Europe and wove the elements that interested him into his own painting. Like his friend Franz Marc, he died in the First World War.
