This 1916 painting by Gustav Klimt shows the palace garden at Schönbrunn, a landscape rather than the figures and portraits he is best known for. Klimt, a founding member of the Vienna Secession, did paint landscapes alongside his allegories and portraits, and this is one of them. Its title points to a garden setting, and it invites a quiet, observant look at the park.
On your wall: Its garden subject suits living rooms, studies and hallways where a calm landscape adds a touch of nature, particularly in modern interiors.

Gustav Klimt was an Austrian symbolist painter and a founding member of the Vienna Secession. His work helped shape Art Nouveau in Europe. He made paintings, murals and sketches, centred mainly on the female body with a frank eroticism, and also painted landscapes. Among his best-known works are The Kiss and Portrait of Adele Bloch-Bauer I.
