This 1908 work by Wassily Kandinsky takes the Ludwigskirche in Munich as its subject. Kandinsky was a Russian painter and art theorist who worked in Germany, and he is generally credited as one of the pioneers of abstraction in Western art. Born in Moscow, he began his painting studies at the age of 30. Here, a well-known Munich church becomes the focus of his attention, and it makes an interesting companion to the more abstract work he is remembered for.
On your wall: A fitting choice for modern interiors such as a living room, study or hallway, where a church view by a pioneering painter can add character.
