This poster calendar was made by Edward Penfield in 1896 for R. H. Russell, and it was designed to be used through the following year, 1897. It is a lithograph, and it shows a person with a tortoiseshell cat. Penfield was an American illustrator working in the period often called the Golden Age of American Illustration, and he is regarded as the father of the American poster. Today the print belongs to the Metropolitan Museum of Art's collection of posters and lithographs. It suits anyone who enjoys the early days of poster design.
On your wall: It would sit well in a study, hallway or reading corner, and cat lovers or collectors of vintage posters may find it especially appealing.
