Malevich's Suprematist Painting of 1917 is pared back and purely abstract, inviting you to look at form and space without a story to follow.

Kazimir Malevich painted this work in 1917, working in oil on canvas. It belongs to Suprematism, the radically non-objective approach to painting that he introduced in 1915 and became best known for. Rather than depicting a recognisable scene, the work belongs to this move towards pure abstraction, which helped shape abstract painting in the twentieth century. Today it is held in the collection of the Museum of Modern Art.
On your wall: Its abstract, restrained character suits modern, minimalist interiors such as living rooms, studies and offices, where it can sit as a calm, considered focal point.
