About this artwork

Wey is a printed textile designed by William Morris in 1883. It was produced on both cotton and velveteen, two fabrics with quite different surfaces, so the same design could be used in different ways. Morris was a leading figure in the British Arts and Crafts movement and did much to revive traditional British textile arts and methods of production. Wey belongs to that body of work, and it is the printed fabric itself, seen close up, that this picture invites you to study.

On your wall: Suited to living rooms, studies and bedrooms where you want a considered, traditional-minded piece with a botanical, textile character.
