About this artwork

Philip Reinagle painted this passion flower vine in oil on canvas in 1800. Blooms, buds, curling tendrils and a single fruit are gathered on the vine, set against a classical column and an evening sky. The work was made for Robert John Thornton's Temple of Flora, a publication issued in London between 1799 and 1812. It is a still life of a flower, and it is now held at the Yale Center for British Art.

On your wall: Suited to a study, hallway or sitting room, where its botanical subject and the calm tones of an evening sky sit well with traditional or quietly modern interiors.
