Jules Chéret made this poster in 1876 to advertise À Voltaire, a clothing shop in Paris at 15 place du Château-d'Eau. It promotes both ready-made and made-to-measure clothes, and singles out a fully lined overcoat, new for the season, at 20 francs. This is the variant in which the man wears his hat on his head. It is a colour lithograph, printed at Chéret's own press, and measures 116 by 83 cm. Chéret is often called the father of the modern poster, and this work shows him applying his craft to the fashion trade of his day.
