This 1908 poster by Emil Cardinaux shows the Matterhorn, the Alpine peak above Zermatt, with its height of 4505 metres given in the title. It belongs to the tradition of Swiss tourism advertising, in which the Alps were presented to travellers through bold, clear graphic design. Cardinaux is closely linked with posters of the Alps, and this work sits among them. It was printed by Wolfensberger, a name associated with Swiss poster printing of the period. A good choice for anyone drawn to early travel posters and the mountain itself.
On your wall: Suits a hallway, study or living room where vintage travel posters and mountain subjects are welcome, and works well in a chalet-style or traditional interior.
