Boote in der Überflutung, or Boats in the Flood, is a 1937 painting by Paul Klee. As the title suggests, it centres on boats caught in a flood, though Klee treats the subject in an abstract way rather than as a literal scene. Klee was born in Switzerland and worked as a German artist, and his style drew on expressionism, cubism and surrealism. This painting belongs to the collection of the Fondation Beyeler.
On your wall: Its abstract treatment of a watery subject suits modern living rooms, studies and hallways, especially where a considered, contemporary piece is wanted on a calm stretch of wall.

Paul Klee was a Swiss-born German artist whose style was entirely his own. Over his career he drew on several movements, including expressionism, cubism and surrealism, and blended these influences into work that remains unmistakably his. For a Swiss customer, there is something pleasing in seeing a compatriot's imagination so distinctively at play.
