Paul Klee's 1920 take on the Lamb of God, where a small animal, a cross and a hint of blood meet in a quietly abstract composition.

Painted by Paul Klee in 1920, The Lamb is an abstract work that draws on a well-known Christian image, the Lamb of God. Alongside the lamb itself, the work brings in the cross and blood, so a familiar religious theme is reshaped through Klee's own individual style. He made it using oil paint together with pen and ink drawing on cardboard, which combines painting and line in a single piece. Klee was a Swiss-born German artist whose approach drew on expressionism, cubism and surrealism. The Lamb belongs to the Städel Museum.
On your wall: Its modern, abstract character and thoughtful subject suit a study, a reading corner or a calm living room where a considered piece can be looked at slowly.

Text based on Städel Museum.
Paul Klee was a Swiss-born German artist whose style was entirely his own. Over his career he drew on several movements, including expressionism, cubism and surrealism, and blended these influences into work that remains unmistakably his. For a Swiss customer, there is something pleasing in seeing a compatriot's imagination so distinctively at play.
