About this artwork

Paul Klee painted this work in 1940 and gave it the German title "Woher? wo? wohin?", which translates as "Where from? Where? Where to?". It belongs to a group of his paintings that feature angels. Klee was born in Switzerland and worked as a German artist, with a style entirely his own. Expressionism, cubism and surrealism all left their mark on his approach, and that mix of influences is part of what makes his pictures so distinctive.

On your wall: Its modern, abstract character suits a study, living room or hallway where you like having a thoughtful, contemporary piece to look at.

About Paul Klee

Paul Klee was a Swiss-born German artist whose style was entirely his own. Over his career he drew on several movements, including expressionism, cubism and surrealism, and blended these influences into work that remains unmistakably his. For a Swiss customer, there is something pleasing in seeing a compatriot's imagination so distinctively at play.
