About this artwork

This is a Futurist painting by Umberto Boccioni, dated 1910. Its Italian title, Immagine la città che sale, is also known in English as The City Rises, and it points to a city in the act of growing and climbing. Boccioni was one of the principal figures of Futurism, a movement concerned with the dynamism of form. His approach to breaking down solid mass influenced artists long after his early death. The work belongs to that wider body of ideas, and it rewards a slow look at how shape and movement are handled.

On your wall: Its modern, energetic subject suits a living room, studio or study where a contemporary and abstract piece can give the space some movement.
