This is Plate 65 from The North American Sylva, showing the crab apple, Malus coronaria. A single branch carries leaves, a green fruit and soft pink blossoms, all hand-coloured. The caption below names the plant in both English and Latin, in the manner of a botanical study. Pancrace Bessa was a French natural history artist known for his botanical illustrations, and his careful, fine treatment of plants suits a subject like this. Blossom and fruit appear together on the same branch, so the plate shows the tree at more than one stage.
On your wall: The pink blossoms and fresh greens suit a kitchen, hallway, study or bedroom, and sit well alongside other botanical prints in a calm, naturally lit space.
