This is Plate 54 from The North American Sylva, showing the yellow cucumbertree, Magnolia acuminata var. subcordata. The hand-coloured plate brings together a large green leaf, a yellow magnolia flower and a cone-like fruit with red seeds. The caption on the plate gives an older name, Heart leaved cucumber Tree, Magnolia cordata. Pancrace Bessa, a French natural history artist known for his botanical illustrations, made the image in 1819.
On your wall: Its soft yellow and green tones suit a calm study, hallway, dining room or bedroom, especially where other botanical prints or natural materials are already at home.
