Pancrace Bessa, 1819
A single scarlet oak leaf and a twig of acorns, drawn with careful detail and delicate hand colouring.
No VAT charged. Free delivery in Switzerland from CHF 99. Delivery details
This botanical plate shows one scarlet oak leaf set beside a twig bearing three acorns. It is an engraving finished with hand colouring, and it is numbered Plate 25 and captioned with both the common name and the Latin name, Quercus coccinea. The plate belongs to a group of illustrations connected with the North American Sylva. Bessa was a French natural history artist known for botanical work, and the plate's simple arrangement lets the leaf's shape and the form of the acorns take centre stage.
On your wall: Its simple botanical subject suits studies, hallways, dining rooms and reading corners, especially in calm interiors where a quiet nature study can sit comfortably.
