Primordial Chaos, No. 16 comes from The WU/ROSEN Series, a group of paintings Hilma af Klint made in 1906 and 1907. It belongs to her wider Primordial Chaos sequence and is numbered within Group 1 of that series. Af Klint was a Swedish artist, and she is regarded as one of the first major abstract painters in Western art. Much of her work was made before the first purely abstract compositions by Kandinsky, Malevich and Mondrian. Her paintings often drew on spiritual ideas, and some resemble diagrams.
On your wall: Its abstract character suits modern living rooms, studies and calm, uncluttered spaces where a thoughtful work can hold a wall of its own.

Hilma af Klint was a Swedish artist and mystic whose paintings rank among the earliest major abstract works in Western art. Much of her output came before the first purely abstract pieces by Kandinsky, Malevich and Mondrian. She belonged to The Five, a circle of women drawn to Theosophy, and her diagram-like paintings give visual form to complex spiritual ideas.
