Painted in 1907, 'The Ten Largest, No. 2, Childhood' is the second work in Hilma af Klint's series The Ten Largest. It was made with oil paint and tempera on paper, and it is held today by the Hilma af Klint Foundation. Af Klint was a Swedish artist and mystic, and her paintings are considered among the first major abstract works in Western art. Much of her work predates the first purely abstract compositions by Kandinsky, Malevich and Mondrian. She was inspired by Theosophy and belonged to a circle of women called The Five, and her paintings often act as visual expressions of complex spiritual ideas.
On your wall: Its abstract character suits a modern living room, a study or a calm reading corner, wherever a thoughtful, contemporary piece is wanted.

Hilma af Klint was a Swedish artist and mystic whose paintings rank among the earliest major abstract works in Western art. Much of her output came before the first purely abstract pieces by Kandinsky, Malevich and Mondrian. She belonged to The Five, a circle of women drawn to Theosophy, and her diagram-like paintings give visual form to complex spiritual ideas.
