About this artwork

Painted in 1912, Reh im Walde II (Deer in the Woods II) shows roe deer in a woodland setting. It is the work of Franz Marc, a German painter and printmaker who was one of the key figures of German Expressionism and a founding member of Der Blaue Reiter. The picture is made in colour on canvas and belongs to the Lenbachhaus, where it is held today. Animals were central to Marc's art, and here the deer and the trees of the wood form the subject.

On your wall: Its woodland subject and expressive colour suit living rooms, studies and reading corners where a modern, abstract picture can bring a touch of nature.
