Romantic Landscape was painted by Wassily Kandinsky in 1911 in oil on canvas. The title and genre point to a landscape, and it invites you to look for the shapes and colours of land and sky as Kandinsky saw them. Kandinsky was a Russian painter and art theorist who worked in Germany, and he is widely regarded as one of the pioneers of abstraction in Western art. He began his painting studies at thirty, after being born in Moscow. The work is now in the Lenbachhaus.
On your wall: Its modern, abstract character suits living rooms, studies and hallways where you want a landscape with a contemporary feel, particularly alongside simple, uncluttered furnishings.
