Wassily Kandinsky, 1925
Kandinsky's 1925 abstract work plays with circles and the idea of motion, as its title, Swinging, suggests. It rewards a slow, curious look.

Swinging (Schaukeln) was painted by Wassily Kandinsky in 1925 and belongs to abstract art. Circles appear in the composition, and the title points to a sense of movement and rhythm rather than to a literal scene. Kandinsky used oil paint on cardboard, a modest support that gives the work a different character from a traditional canvas painting. Kandinsky is widely regarded as one of the pioneers of abstraction in Western art, and this piece sits comfortably within that tradition. The original is held in the collection of Tate and is shown at Tate Modern.
On your wall: Its abstract, circle-based composition suits modern interiors such as living rooms, studies and creative workspaces where a piece with movement and a little visual curiosity is welcome.
