About this artwork

Gustav Klimt painted this view of Schloss Kammer on the Attersee in 1909, and it is the second work he made under this title. Klimt is best known for figurative paintings such as The Kiss and the portrait of Adele Bloch-Bauer I, yet he also painted landscapes, and this is one of them. He was a founding member of the Vienna Secession and helped shape Art Nouveau in Europe. His admiration for Japanese art and its methods is often noted, and it makes a good lens through which to look at his landscapes.

On your wall: A landscape by Klimt suits a living room, study or hallway where you would like a considered, modern picture of a lakeside place to draw the eye.
