Albert Gleizes painted this landscape in 1911 in oil on canvas, on a generous scale of about 146 by 114 centimetres. It is known under several titles, including Le Chemin, Paysage à Meudon and Paysage avec personnage, which point to a path, a rural setting and a figure within it. Gleizes was a French artist and writer who counted himself among the founders of Cubism. The painting also has a wartime history: it was identified by Hector Feliciano as having been looted by the Nazis from the home of the collector Alphonse Kann during the Second World War, and it is now counted among recovered works.
On your wall: Its landscape subject and modern, abstracted approach suit a study, living room or hallway where a thoughtful, art-minded atmosphere is wanted.
