Augusto Giacometti, 1910
A loose watercolour of Florence's countryside, with tall cypresses, dense trees and a white house at the edge of the scene.

Augusto Giacometti painted this landscape in Florence in 1910. It is a loose watercolour, and the brushwork keeps the scene soft and open. Dense trees fill much of the view, and tall cypresses rise among them. A white house sits at the left, and a pale path is visible nearby. The artist signed it with his AG monogram. Giacometti was a Swiss painter, known as one of the first abstract painters, and this work shows his lighter, freer handling of a landscape.
On your wall: Its soft greens and white accents suit calm living rooms, studies and hallways, particularly where a quiet, modern landscape is wanted.
