Painted in 1911, this landscape by the Norwegian artist Edvard Munch turns to a modest corner of country life: a garden with trees, and geese moving through it. The work is oil on canvas, and it belongs to the collection of the Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum. Munch is best known for The Scream, yet here his attention rests on an everyday outdoor setting and its feathered inhabitants. It is a scene that invites you to look slowly at the way trees, ground and birds sit together.
On your wall: Its garden subject and natural theme suit living rooms, dining areas, hallways and studies where a calm landscape can bring a touch of the outdoors.

Edvard Munch was a Norwegian painter. His best-known work, The Scream, dates from 1893 and has become one of the most recognised and admired images in Western art. If you are drawn to bold, expressive pictures that stay in the memory, his work is a rewarding place to begin.
