About this artwork

My Garden is a 1914 painting by the Swiss artist Augusto Giacometti, and its title tells us the subject is a garden. Giacometti came from Stampa in Grisons. He was known for his work in Art Nouveau and Symbolism, and he is counted among the first abstract painters. He also worked in stained glass, promoted murals and designed popular posters. Seen alongside that background, this garden picture sits comfortably within a body of work that looked for new ways of handling colour and form.

On your wall: A garden subject suits living rooms, studies and hallways, particularly where you want a modern, abstract touch with a link to nature.
