About this artwork

Childe Hassam painted The Church at Gloucester in 1918, in oil on canvas. The picture centres on a church building with a tree beside it, a quiet everyday subject treated in the manner of American Impressionism, the movement Hassam is closely associated with. He was known for his urban and coastal scenes, and this work shows the same interest in ordinary places observed with care. Today the painting belongs to the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.

On your wall: It would sit comfortably in a hallway, living room or study, where a calm architectural scene with a touch of nature suits traditional and modern interiors alike.
