Painted in 1873, this landscape by Camille Pissarro looks at chestnut trees at Osny, with a man included in the scene. It is an oil painting on canvas, and it belongs to the Impressionist tradition for which Pissarro is known. Pissarro learned from Gustave Courbet and Jean-Baptiste-Camille Corot, and later worked alongside Georges Seurat and Paul Signac. Here the focus is on the trees and the landscape around them, an everyday outdoor subject treated with close attention.
On your wall: A tree-filled landscape like this suits living rooms, studies and quiet hallways, where its natural subject brings a calm, outdoor feel to the space.
