Camille Pissarro, 1895
An apple orchard in sunlight at Éragny, where two women rake hay beneath the trees.

Pissarro painted this orchard scene in 1895 in oil on canvas. Apple trees fill the field, and two women haymakers work among them, raking the cut hay in bright sunlight. It is a landscape in the Impressionist manner, where the everyday work of the countryside sits naturally within the setting. The title places the scene at Éragny, and the painting carries Pissarro's signature and the date 1895.
On your wall: Its sunlit greens and gentle rural subject suit living rooms, dining areas, kitchens and quiet hallways where a calm, natural scene is welcome.

He learned from earlier masters such as Gustave Courbet and Jean-Baptiste-Camille Corot. At 54 he took up the Neo-Impressionist style, studying and working alongside Georges Seurat and Paul Signac.
