This landscape by Alfred Sisley shows a lane running beneath trees towards a small town, with a house or two set among the greenery. It is painted in oil on canvas and belongs to the Kunsthalle Bremen. Sisley was an Impressionist who devoted himself almost entirely to landscape, and this work reflects that focus on everyday outdoor scenes. The path draws the viewer into the picture, while the trees give the composition its rhythm and shelter.
On your wall: Its tree-lined lane and gentle rural subject suit living rooms, hallways and studies where a calm, natural view is welcome.

Alfred Sisley was an Impressionist landscape painter, born in Paris to British parents. He was especially devoted to painting outdoors, and almost all his work is landscape. He is known for series made around Hampton Court on the Thames, the 1875 floods at Marly-le-Roi, and the Gothic church at Moret-sur-Loing, as well as Seine riverside scenes west of Paris.
