Alfred Sisley, c. 1887
A quiet September morning in the countryside, where autumn-tinged trees frame a village far off beneath a pale blue sky.

Sisley's landscape looks across a field, where a single figure stands, towards a village in the distance. The trees have begun to take on autumn colour, and a large tree rises at the right of the scene. Above it all, a pale blue sky gives the morning a soft, open feeling. It is painted in oil on canvas and belongs to the Impressionist landscape tradition that Sisley followed throughout his career, with its close attention to the outdoors and to changing light.
On your wall: Its soft blues, autumn greens and warm tones suit living rooms, bedrooms, studies and hallways where a calm countryside view is welcome.

Alfred Sisley was an Impressionist landscape painter, born in Paris to British parents. He was especially devoted to painting outdoors, and almost all his work is landscape. He is known for series made around Hampton Court on the Thames, the 1875 floods at Marly-le-Roi, and the Gothic church at Moret-sur-Loing, as well as Seine riverside scenes west of Paris.
