About this artwork

Painted in 1888, this work shows ploughed fields, the turned earth of the countryside at the centre of the picture. Van Gogh made it in oil paint on canvas, and it is now part of the collection of the Van Gogh Museum. He was a Dutch painter, and landscapes were among the subjects he returned to most often. His work is known for bold colour and lively, expressive brushwork, qualities that suit a subject as simple and grounded as a field of freshly worked soil.

On your wall: A rural landscape like this suits living rooms, studies and hallways, especially where a calm, natural subject is welcome on the wall.
