Begrüssung (Greeting) is a watercolour street scene by August Macke. A woman in an orange dress and a figure in pale blue come together in greeting, while a horse-drawn carriage passes and trees and houses fill the space behind them. The warm orange set against the cool blue draws the eye straight to the meeting at the centre. Macke was a German Expressionist and a member of Der Blaue Reiter, and the loose, light handling of watercolour suits an everyday encounter like this one.
On your wall: The warm orange and soft blue would brighten a hallway, living room or dining area, and suit modern interiors that welcome a little colour and movement.

August Macke was a German Expressionist painter and one of the leading members of Der Blaue Reiter. Working in a lively period for German art, he took in the avant-garde movements emerging across Europe and wove the elements that interested him into his own painting. Like his friend Franz Marc, he died in the First World War.
