About this artwork

Karl Blossfeldt's Delphinium is a close-up black-and-white photograph of several dried leaves. Their tips curl into spirals, like fine tendrils, and they sit against a plain grey background. Seen so near, the plant becomes a study in line and shape. Blossfeldt is best known for his close-up photographs of plants, published in 1929 as Urformen der Kunst. Like his father, he was drawn to nature and to the ways in which plants grow. This photograph is held in the Pinakothek der Moderne.

On your wall: Its quiet greys and graphic curves suit calm, minimal spaces such as a study, hallway or bedroom, and sit well alongside natural materials.
