Drawn in pastel in 1933, this work shows three stylised figures arranged around a curved, dark railing: a nude seen from behind, a woman in blue, and a woman with braided hair. The figures are simplified, and the sweep of the railing draws them into a single composition. Oskar Schlemmer was a German painter, sculptor, designer and choreographer associated with the Bauhaus school. The drawing is now held in the Städel Museum, and its German title translates as Three Figures at the Balustrade.
On your wall: The soft pastel tones and calm, figurative composition suit a living room, study or hallway, especially where modern and abstract art is already part of the setting.
