Hodakayama belongs to Hiroshi Yoshida's series Twelve Scenes in the Japan Alps, and it is a woodblock print in the shin hanga style. Yoshida is regarded as one of the leading artists of that movement, and he is especially noted for his landscape prints. Mountain scenery was a subject he returned to often, and this print, as the title tells us, looks to Hodakayama within the Japanese Alps. It suits anyone who enjoys quiet, carefully composed views of high country.
On your wall: It would sit well in a study, hallway or living room, particularly where a calm mountain landscape and traditional Japanese printmaking are welcome.

Hiroshi Yoshida was a Japanese painter and woodblock printmaker of the 20th century. He is counted, alongside Hasui Kawase, among the finest artists of the shin-hanga style, and is admired above all for his landscapes. He travelled widely, and became known for presenting subjects such as the Taj Mahal, the Swiss Alps and the Grand Canyon in traditional Japanese woodblock form.
