This is a woodcut made in 1935 by Hiroshi Yoshida, the Japanese painter and printmaker (1876–1950). The print carries his pencil signature, and a second signature, "Yoshida", in brush and ink next to his red "Hiroshi" seal. It measures roughly 10 by 15 inches, a landscape format. Yoshida is regarded as one of the leading artists of the shin-hanga style and is especially noted for his landscape prints, made in the traditional Japanese woodblock manner.
On your wall: Its gentle subject and landscape format would sit well in a calm living room, a hallway or a study, wherever a quiet touch of Japanese art is wanted.
