About this artwork

Paul Signac painted this work in 1907 in oil on canvas. Its title in English is The Golden Horn. Morning, and it belongs to the traditions of marine art and landscape painting, so the viewer looks out over water and its surroundings at the start of the day. Signac was a French Neo-Impressionist who, with Georges Seurat, helped develop Pointillism. The painting is held at the Musée des beaux-arts de Marseille.

On your wall: A marine landscape with a morning mood suits living rooms, studies and hallways where a view of water and light adds a calm, open feeling.

About Paul Signac

Paul Signac was a French painter associated with Neo-Impressionism. Working alongside Georges Seurat, he helped develop Pointillism, a technique in which a picture is built from small, separate touches of colour. His name is closely linked with that approach, and it remains the reason his work is so often discussed today.
