Signac painted this coastal landscape in 1906, working in oil on canvas. It belongs to the tradition of marine art, and the scene includes a sailboat and a tree, bringing together water, vessel and foliage. Signac is known as a French Neo-Impressionist who, alongside Georges Seurat, helped develop Pointillism. The painting is held by the Royal Museums of Fine Arts of Belgium and is shown at the Fin-de-Siècle Museum.

Paul Signac was a French painter associated with Neo-Impressionism. Working alongside Georges Seurat, he helped develop Pointillism, a technique in which a picture is built from small, separate touches of colour. His name is closely linked with that approach, and it remains the reason his work is so often discussed today.
