Pissarro painted this landscape in 1885 in oil on canvas, looking down from above onto a fenced field and a path. Figures walk along the way, and a pale horse stands out among them. A small red-roofed shed sits in the middle distance, a house stands at the left, and trees fill the scene. The brushwork is typically Impressionist, built from small touches of colour that describe the countryside. The artist signed it 'C. Pissarro 85'. The painting is now in the Museum of Fine Arts Boston.
On your wall: Its gentle countryside scene and touches of red among the greens suit living rooms, studies, hallways and dining areas that welcome a calm, natural feel.

Camille Pissarro was a Danish-French painter, born on the island of Saint Thomas, who contributed to both Impressionism and Post-Impressionism. He learned from earlier masters such as Gustave Courbet and Jean-Baptiste-Camille Corot. At 54 he took up the Neo-Impressionist style, studying and working alongside Georges Seurat and Paul Signac.
