This is Plate 231 from John James Audubon's The Birds of America, which was published between 1827 and 1838. It shows a male and a female long-billed curlew among tall grass on a muddy bank. Across the water, the Charleston skyline can be seen in the distance. The plate is shown on the full sheet with its caption. The Birds of America was engraved in Scotland and England as a large-format colour-plate book, part of Audubon's plan to record every bird species of North America in pictures.
On your wall: Its natural subject and soft, grassy setting suit studies, hallways, living rooms and bedrooms, especially where botanical or nature-themed prints are already on display.
