About this artwork

Alfred Stieglitz made this photograph in 1903 of the Flatiron Building, which had only recently been erected. He later recalled that it was the day of a great snowstorm, and that from where he stood the building seemed to be advancing towards him like the bow of an enormous ocean steamer. To him it was a picture of the new America in the making. This is a gelatin silver print, made in the United States and printed in 1920/39. It belongs to the Pictorialist tradition, and is held in the Art Institute of Chicago.

On your wall: Its black-and-white tones and city subject suit a study, office, hallway or living room, particularly in modern or minimal interiors with plenty of wall space.
