About this artwork

This is a landscape painting by Paul Cézanne, dated 1882. The German title, which translates as 'L'Estaque, view through the pines', tells us the scene is seen through pine trees, with the place of L'Estaque beyond them. It is painted in oil on canvas. Cézanne was a French painter whose work helped link Impressionism with the Cubism that followed, and his landscapes are often looked at with that in mind. Here, the pines frame the view and draw the eye into the distance.

On your wall: A landscape of pines and open view suits living rooms, studies and hallways, especially where you would like a calm, natural note on the wall.
