Blue reflections drift across a quiet pond, with lily pads floating on the water and green growth along the bank.

This is one of Monet's water lily paintings, and the image gives us a good sense of its mood. Soft blue reflections fill much of the surface, while lily pads rest on the water and green vegetation edges the bank. The scene is built from colour and reflection rather than sharp detail, which suits Monet's aim of painting nature as he perceived it. The signature sits at the lower right.
On your wall: The cool blues and soft greens suit calm spaces such as living rooms, bedrooms, studies and bathrooms, especially where you want a restful, natural feel.

Claude Monet was a French painter and a founder of Impressionism. He devoted his long career to expressing nature as he perceived it, working especially in outdoor landscape painting. The movement takes its name from his painting Impression, Sunrise, shown in 1874 at the First Impressionist Exhibition, which he helped initiate as an alternative to the Salon.
