This is Raoul Dufy's Arcades à l'Estaque, painted in 1908. The title places us at l'Estaque, and the subject is a set of arcades there. Dufy made it in oil on canvas, in a compact format of 39.5 by 32 centimetres. He is closely associated with Fauvism and known for a vibrant, decorative approach to painting, and that is a good frame of mind in which to enjoy this work. Today it belongs to the Musée national d'art moderne and has been on deposit at the Musée Cantini since 1966.
On your wall: Its architectural subject and modern spirit would suit a living room, study or hallway where a single, thoughtful picture can anchor the wall.
